Binocular Vision | Advisor: Barry Tannen
Cornea | Advisors: Melissa Barnett, Christine Sindt
Dr. Sherman is an Instructor in Optometric Science (in Ophthalmology) at Columbia University Medical Center. She specializes in anterior segment ocular surface disease and is the Director of the Contact Lens Clinic at CUMC. Dr. Sherman received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and then graduated from SUNY College of Optometry. She completed her optometric residency in Ocular Disease and Primary Care at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center. She is board certified in the American Board of Optometry and National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO). Dr. Sherman is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Sherman is responsible for the CUMC ophthalmology resident retinoscopy, refraction and contact lens didactics and a lecturer at the Basic and Clinical Science Course. She has contributed in peer-reviewed scientific articles and lectured on anterior segment disease and specialty contact lenses at the Global Specialty Lens Symposium.
Dr. Yin received her OD from Illinois College of Optometry and completed her clinical residency in Pediatric Optometry at the New England College of Optometry. Currently, Dr. Yin is an Assistant Professor at the Illinois College of Optometry, where she serves as an attending optometrist in the Pediatric / Binocular Vision service, precepting fourth-year students. In addition to her role in didactic and laboratory education, Dr. Yin is also interested in research and serves as an investigator for PEDIG.
Contact Lens | Advisor: Melissa Barnett, Christine Sindt
Dr. Gialousakis joined the Chicago College of Optometry (CCO) from the State University of New York (SUNY) where he obtained his Doctor of Optometry degree, completed a residency in cornea and contact lenses, and has served as an Assistant Clinical Professor since 2014. His areas of expertise include contact lens applications for keratoconus, orthokeratology, presbyopia, pediatric aphakia, and post-trauma/post-surgical, as well as prosthetics. Aside from his teaching experience at SUNY, Dr. Gialousakis has delivered poster presentations and continuing education lectures on various contact lens topics and prosthetics. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, and a member of the American Optometric Association. Dr. Gialousakis is currently the Director of Curriculum Development and an Assistant Professor at CCO.
Glaucoma | Advisor: Murray Fingeret
Dr. Steen is an attending optometric physician and professor of ocular pharmacology at Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry. Dr. Steen received her optometric degree from the University of Waterloo with Honors and completed her residency in Primary Care with Emphasis in Ocular Disease at Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Steen’s main clinical interests include neuro-ophthalmic, retinal, and optic nerve disease with emphasis in medical and surgical management. Dr. Steen’s research interests include retinal imaging modalities in neuro-ophthalmic and optic nerve disease. Dr. Steen is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a member of the Optometric Glaucoma Society, serves the position of Treasurer on the Board of the Palm Beach County Optometric Association, and is board certified by the American Board of Optometry. Dr. Steen is also an invited guest lecturer for the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Physician Assistants Program at Nova Southeastern University.
Low Vision | Advisor: Rebecca Marinoff, Sarah Appel
Dr. Kenny received her bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh. Upon graduation, Dr. Kenny obtained her Doctor of Optometry from Salus University Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She completed her residency at The Eye Institute in Low Vision and is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. In 2016, she received the William Feinbloom Low Vision Award and the Alfred A. Rosenbloom, Jr. Low Vision Residency Award. Dr. Kenny is currently a faculty member at Salus University Pennsylvania College of Optometry, which includes a role as the Chief of the William Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center and Assistant Professor in the didactic program.
Neuro-optometry | Advisor: Patricia Modica
Dr. Maglione graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University and completed a 2-year advanced residency program at The Eye Institute in neuro-ophthalmic disease. She was subsequently hired as faculty and is an Assistant Professor and Clinical Instructor in the primary care and neuro-ophthalmic disease services.
Ocular Surface Disease | Advisor: Whitney Hauser
Dr. Kehinde attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she earned her B.S. in Integrative Biology in 2005. She then went on to earn her Ph.D. in Vision Sciences in 2009 and O.D. Degree in 2013 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry in Birmingham, AL. Following the professional program, she completed a Primary Care residency with an emphasis in cornea and contact lens in 2014 at Indiana University School of Optometry in Bloomington, IN. Dr. Kehinde is now a Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist in Houston, TX. After working in private and commercial practice settings, she join the faculty at University of Houston College of Optometry as Assistant Clinical Professor in 2015, where she lectures in didactic courses, serves as laboratory instructor and attending in the Family Practice and Dry Eye Services. Her research activities focus on contact lens and ophthalmic drug clinical trials.
Pediatrics | Advisor: Susan Cotter
Dr. Mallios received her Doctor of Optometry degree from New England College of Optometry, where she also completed a pediatric residency. During residency, Dr. Mallios received the AOF Dr. Terrence Ingraham Pediatric Optometry Residency Award. Dr. Mallios is currently the Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs and an Associate Professor at Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Optometry. She comes to CCO after having worked at SUNY College of Optometry where she served as the chief of the Pediatrics department. While at SUNY, Dr. Mallios also taught courses and conducted research. Prior to working at SUNY, Dr. Mallios worked as an Assistant Clinical Professor and Instructor of Ophthalmology at Tufts Medical Center in the Pediatric Ophthalmology department and as an adjunct clinical professor at NECO. Dr. Mallios is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, an InfantSEE® provider, a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, and a member of the American Optometric Association.
Primary Care | Advisors: Kimberly Lambreghts, Shital Mani, Heather McLeod
Dr. Ragha is a clinical instructor at Southern College of Optometry, where she also received her Doctor of Optometry in 2016. Following graduation, she completed her postgraduate residency in primary care at the Memphis VAMC. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology at the University of Georgia. Dr. Shaleen Ragha currently sees patients and supervises students in a clinical setting at The Eye Center at SCO, in the primary care and ocular disease department, as well as at The Focal Point at Crosstown Concourse. Dr. Ragha is licensed to practice in Tennessee and is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA) and Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians (TAOP). Her areas of professional interest include primary care, ocular disease, and ocular manifestations of systemic disease.
Public Health | Advisors: Janet Leasher, Sandy Block
Dr. Russo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Primary Care at New England College of Optometry (NECO) where she is Instructor of Record for the public health courses and also teaches in procedurally based and clinical reasoning courses. Dr. Russo is an Attending Optometrist at Codman Square Health Center where she precepts second, third, and fourth year students. Her research interests include access to eye care and visual/ocular disorders among vulnerable populations, as well as optometric education. Dr. Russo received her BS from Quinnipiac University in 2006 and matriculated from SUNY State College of Optometry in 2010. After graduation, she completed a residency in Primary Care and Low Vision Rehabilitation at the West Haven VA Medical Center in Connecticut. She most recently completed her MPH degree from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2017.
Retina | Advisor: Carlo Pelino
Dr. Poirier-Schmidt is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the SUNY College of Optometry where she supervises students and residents in Retina, Electrodiagnostics, Glaucoma and Primary Care clinics. She also serves as the Instructor of Record for the Ocular Disease II (Retina) course for third year students at SUNY. Dr. Poirier-Schmidt earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from SUNY Optometry and also completed her residency in Ocular Disease at SUNY and Woodhull Medical Center in NYC. Her areas of interest include diagnosis, treatment and management of posterior segment disease. Dr. Poirier-Schmidt is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and holds the position of Diplomate Chair of the Retina Special Interest Group and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry.
